Achilles Last Stand has quite a complicated riff, not many can do a Jimmi there) smile again ?

Carlos Santana is the only 60s guitarist that is still making musically relevant statements in the limelight. (Thats a mouthful!) He has a very idenifiable style that is completely unique. People like Jeff Beck is around but hes obscure almost. Clapton is like an elder statesman. Page is probably resting on his laurels.
Pat Metheny doesn't really apply. He should be in a "Best" guitarist question with jazz legends like Al Dimeola and John McLaughlin, not these rock legends. Metheny is equally great as Santana though, just a different genre.

Who is the best is a matter of perspective and personal taste. I think Santana is awesome, however, over the years I've listened to many others who are equally great-in MY opinion- but maybe not anothers'.
Tommy Shaw of Styx is a very underrated guitarist. Jeff Beck is incredible. Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Waddy Watchel, Randy Rhoads, Page, Neal Schon, Nugent, Lindsey Buckingham... the list goes on and on! Very doubtful you will find a group to agree 100%!

Been a Beck fan from Yardbird days. Hendrix changed the rules. My favorite "unknown" is Gary Lucas. But I want EVERYTHING of Danny Gatton.

They ALL are amazing.

To compare, is to devalue their individual expression.

But I'll do it anyway! I like Page 1st,followed by Clapton,Santana,Metheny.

Depends on the type of music. Different musicians are excellent at different music.
