When I have heartburn I lay on the floor (flat on the floor) and take a glass of milk and drink a mouthful every 200 counts. In about 10 mins it usually goes away.
Sounds stupid, but works.
Nothing is worse than heartburn!! I know how much it sucks!
GOOD LUCK TO YA!

Usually caused by too many rich foods. Peppermint ....warm...is a good remedy, however, be careful...I had 3 days of heartburn 2 years ago and on the 4th day I had a heart attack. If it persists go to your doctor.

If you don't have any antacids, then firstly, relax! Stress is very good at boiling up the stomach acid. Don't eat anything for a while. As we start eating, the stomach starts producing acid making the problem worse. The stomach actually empties itself of all acid if there is no food in your stomach. Certainly don't eat anything acidic at such times, such as vinegar on chips, or onions. And as the other answers say, milk is the best, I find cold milk is good. If you can get any antacids, then try Gaviscon liquid, I find it works immediately, and you can actually feel it working within the stomach.

milk or ice cream works well
find out what you ate that gave it to you though so you dont do it again the acid from heartburn damages the oesophagus
next time you're in the chemist buy a bottle of gaviscon just in case!

A friend told me this, and it worked wonders, but it's not the most pleasant: Drink a glass of water with a tablespoon of baking soda in it. Just hold your nose and drink it. It seriously worked in 5 minutes.

Baking soda and water. Don't do milk, it'll make you feel better for a couple of minutes, but then it will actually increase stomach acid.

Drinking a glass of coke always helps me, or taking pepto bismol, even though its chalky. Both are great
