Poke weed grows in places where the soil has been disturbed or in sandy places. Some people use young poke weed leaves to eat. They are supposed to thin your blood. I know it is toxic. I wouldn't recommend you eat it. you can pull it up easily enough. or you can spray it with a herbicide. get some ground cover growing on the bare soil to keep it from showing up year after year.

The old folks used the new leaves in the early spring like dandelion new leaves. The seeds the birds eat. The color from the berries made ink. All that said-- Poke can be toxic and not for the unknowing to use. So use round-up.
good luck

I don't think poke weed is good for anything. It is poisonous, it's berries leave stains, and birds plant it everywhere (in their poop).

I think a non-selective herbicide (like round-up) is best for this pest, or pull it out. Once they get started, they multiply. Each berry that falls plants seeds for later development.

Keep killing the stuff!

Good luck-

I'm not sure what pokeweed is. I'm from the South and we have what we call pokesalad weed. If it's the same thing, I just spray it with Round up in the spring. When I see it starting to come back, I spray it again. Sorry, not much help!
