I take it you are asking about transporters like the ones in Star Trek and other science fiction stories. Since technically a car is a "transporter" being that it transports things.
I think after some hard times for everyone it would be good. At first though it would cause more outsourcing of manufacturing to third world countries because the cost of transporting the goods to advanced nations would go down dramatically. There would be a great deal of unemployment in the manufacturing sector of advanced countries but then eventually the third would countries would become advanced nations as they grew richer from increased participation in the world market. Eventually there would be a more balanced distribution of manufacturing and "white collar" work around the world as there was no advantage to having manufacturing jobs in any particular place since there will be no third world countries where they can pay employees next to nothing.
At least that is my guess!

Good idea: I can go home every weekend, even if I'm stationed a couple thousand miles from home.
Bad idea: There would be the opportunity to commit crimes and transport yourself to a place where they won't extridite you.
My opinion: I would love it and hate it at the same time.

does the transporter just transfer matter, or can you "soul" be teleported also.
it would suck to lose your body somewhere.
