I asked my husband the same question... and he thought that if it came down to it, they would have to go to war- but not in a front lines/fighting position. They could serve as clerks, administrative duties etc. I personally think that everyone should have to defend their country and rights.

The Amish do not have to enlist or fight in war because of their religious beliefs. There are cases where people from other religious groups, namely Quakers, have been drafted into the service, but were allowed to not be in the fighting because they were "conscientious objectors." Muhammed Ali attempted to do that to stay out of Vietnam, but the Army didn't recognize his religious concerns, thinking it was all a publicity stunt to advance the aims of the Nation of Islam (which he was a member at the time, he's now a mainstream Muslem). The U.S. government then charged him with draft dodging and the boxing establishment stripped him of his title at the time and took away his boxing license.

No. They don't even have Social Security numbers. They have separated themselves from the rest of society and would never be called for duty.

They do not have to participate in wars because of their religious beliefs. They also don't have to pay into social security because they take care of their elderly..
