Crib, clothing, car seat, bedding. Everything else you can do without.
you can breast feed and avoid the need for formula and bottles and bottled water. You can get an indian style baby sling and carry your infant instead of buying a stroller. You can switch to a larger purse for a diaper bag (when you breast feed you only need a change of clothes, diapers and wipes). You can even use cloth diapers and avoid the need for buying bulk diapers.
Not having all those little things like strollers, swings, bouncers, formula, diapers... etc, makes for much much more work. But you can bet it'll save you money.
You'd be surprised what all is just convenience when raising a baby. Call your gramma and ask how she did it. You'll learn quick.

You don't need a bassinet, you don't need a wipe warmer, you don't need a bottle sterilizer (just boil the bottles and nipples or use a dishwasher with an antibacterial cycle), you don't need expensive burp clothes (cloth diapers work better anyway and are MUCH cheaper), you don't need a diaper pail--just save plastic bags from the grocery store and use them--double up for #2 diapers. You don't need a lot of baby washclothes and towels--2 or 3 will suffice--same with crib sheets and receiving blankets--you don't need that many. Register for expensive stuff. If people don't get it for you ahead of time, they can get it as a gift when the baby is born or for the holidays. If you plan to nurse or pump, however, I do recommend spending the money on a good electric breastpump like a Medela. And get good bottles like Dr Brown's or Vent-Aires. Spend your money on safer products for carseats, strollers, pack and plays, swings, cribs, mattresses--anything that will contain the baby you want to make sure to have the best products with the best safety ratings. Read the book Baby Bargains--they have great tips on saving money and also great recommendations for products. I swore by it. Good luck.

The basics to start are lots of diapers and wipes, 6 -undershirts and/or body uits, 6-8 sleep and plays/sleepers/pajamas. 1-2 out door outfits for Dr. appt.
Q-tips for belly button, rubbing alcohol. Vaseline if you have a boy.....
3-4 blankets, 1 -2 packs of burp cloths. A blanket. A baby carrier to leave the hospital with the baby and bottles if you are not nursing.
You don't need too much right away because the baby will sleep a lot in the beginning and won't really make a big mess of himself. You will just have to wash regularly. The rest you can get as you can in the next couple of months. You will probably get greating cards with money, or gift cards after the baby arrives. You can use those for more supplies,
Also, you can go to your local Second Childhood, Once upon a child or thrift stores and buy good quality used stuff, like strollers, baby swings, and even clothes...just wash them well. With a dreft baby detergent and a cap full or so of pine /disinfectant cleaner. Rinse twice. Look up the stores on line or in your local phone book.
One last thing...it's not too late to throw a shower together and invite your coworkers and close friends...talk to one of your friends or coworkers and let them know that you really don't have much and don't know what to do, ask them if they would mind planning a shower in the next couple of weeks for you.
People love babies and you will make out good.
Good Luck! Let us know how it turns out. :-)

Diapers Diapers Diaper. Forget about toys until they are old enough to walk or hold a bottle on their own. You can rent dvd or movies for your child at your local library so no movies. a Crib some people just find a draw and put patting in it until the baby is about 3 to six months then the get a normal crib. I like the boucy chairs but then again your baby will have no need for one of those until it can start rolling. I would save your money and just by diapers and clothing. oh and most important a car seat cause in america they will not let you drive home with an infant with out a car seat.

Skip the stuffed animals and toys for now. Burp rags, diapers, tear free baby wash, lotion, a baby hairbrush are necessities. Skip the cutesie wash clothes and towels, the ones you use will work just fine. Just a few bottles and bottle brush are needed for now. The only major things I would be adamant about is a very safe car seat and a nice swing. You could live without a pack and play but a bouncer seat is always nice. Check out the dollar stores and ebay for great deals. Also freecycle.com is a great site for free items.

Is it too late for you to have a baby shower and get everything you need? Do you need furniture or just clothes and blankets? Ask you mom for help. I had a bassinet that I used for the first four months next to my bed. You need a lot of receiving blankets and little outfits and booties and diapers and wipes and powder and a little tub or you can use the kitchen sink to bathe him/her in, shampoo, etc. You don't need to buy an expensive play mat or a bunch of musical electronic toys. You don't really need a wipe warmer (just hold the wipe in your hands for a few seconds and that works better). The wipe warmer dried out my wipes and by the time you got it to the baby's butt, the wipe was cold anyways. Good luck!

Diapers and clothing is number (1). For mothers on a budget, cloth diapers are definitely the best choice. It's what I use on my kids. I would start with the below.
3 dozen flat fold cloth diapers.
6 pairs of rubber pants.
2-3 sets of diaper pins.
(1) 10 gallon diaper pail. With cloth diapers you need a diaper pail.
A handfull of baby wash cloths.
3-4 baby bottles.
(1) baby soother.
3-4 pairs of socks.
2-3 baby sleepers.
A baby bassinette.
Baby oil.
Diaper rash ointment.
Mild baby soap.
Rubbing alcohol.
Vaseline.
Basically anything over and above what's already listed can be picked up when you have the financial means.

Diapers of course. Vasaline to prevent diaper rash. You don't need the expensive creams. Baby wash, whatever you're going to use to give him/her a bath in. You can get Johnson's Head-to-Toe and you won't have to buy shampoo.
As long as you have love, food, & diapers everything else should fall in place. You will be just fine. You'll need blankets, but they aren't a must. If you can't afford them use pillow cases or something.
Always look at dollar stores, like Family Dollar or Dollar General, they sell most of the same baby items the bigger stores sell.

Get the clothes second hand. Buy lots of wash clothes and diapers. You really don't need a crib yet. If you have to you can use a drawer, or in some towns they have places that give away free stuff. Maybe you should try that.
