no, weening children from a dummy is hard work. sucking her thumb is better and doesnt cost anything, dummies cost a packet if u lose them!

I would start giving her a dummy for two reasons.
1) A dummy will be easier to take away from her when the time comes.
2) Sucking her thumb will only make it sore.
Hope this helps good luck.

The smartest thing I have done is given my kids a dummy. They do not suck thier thumb, or fingers or anything. I took it away before they were a year because they could then chew on toys, and it prevents future problems of trying to wean it away. Sucking the thumb is a bad thing for them to get into because it has bad effects in the teeth, the thumbs get really sore and chaffed, and you can't take it away, so it is always there and available for them if they want it. The dummy on the other hand can be taken away and it is gone, you control it. Personally I would, but it is your choice.

a dummy is not good has it is a pain to get them away from it when they are older, but on the other hand thumb sucking is not good either, when she starts to develop her teeth the thumb could make them grow funny ways i.e to the side, try and encourage a baby blanket with silk around the outside or a blanket with a soft tag. my son had a silk blanket which he would rub the label or play with the silk, and my daughter had a soft bunny called snoop, it is just a comfort thing and a matter of will power on your behalf

|Dummies are easier to gid rid of than thumbs! I would try and give her a dummy although thumb sucking looks so cute! (in babies, not 4 year olds!) so this is why I would encourage a dummy so you can take it away when she is too old.

The problem with a pacifier vs a thumb is that if the baby sleeps with a paci and it falls out in the night, she'll wake up and cry for it. If she sucks her thumb, she knows right where it is at all times.
Either one is eventually bad for your child's teeth, so I vote for the thumb -- she can put it in and take it out when she wants, you never have to worry about being out and having it fall and get all dirty, etc.
Both my kids sucked their thumbs until they got some teeth, so I never had to deal with weaning them off it. Maybe you'll be as lucky. : )

I doubt it would do her much harm to suck her thumb, at least until her teeth start coming in. But sure, if it was important to you, you could discourage her by removing her thumb from her mouth and giving her something else to chew on (e.g. a toy or teething ring).

I wish my daughter sucked her thumb! Every time her dummy came out she'd scream and I'd have to go rummaging around her cot to find it, at least she'll always be able to find her thumb!

Unless u plan on sitting there every second of every day what is the point? My son (17 weeks) sucks on his fingers all the time and chews. It is the age everything goes in the mouth.

Yes definatlly because you can stop her from sucking on a pacifier but not the thumb. You can throw away a pacifier but not her thumb.
