if you take a look at the most successful people in the country you will find a very high proportion come from immigrant families. Perhaps immigrants do a lot more good than people think. The major benefit is that languages build bridges between different cultures and communities and increase the value of social capital. We need to build bridges, not stagnate in isolation.

So you can tell the tourists in central london to move out of your way in their own language. It works, seening as i speak a few different languages. okay for real: It helps when you apply for a job, you can listen in on peoples' conversation down thew phone on the train/bus, if you learn a modern language you can go there on an exchange with your school, etc.
but if everyone spoke english, it would be so much easier.

You might then know that the spelling of "benifit" is BENE-FIT
(bene being latin, italian etc for well)
Point taken?

the new ones coming in - well - these days i think it maybe more devisive than a benefit

When you are limited to one language, you are limiting yourself to the poeple that you can interact effectively with. With each additional language that you have, you open up more possibilities. For example, if I couldn't speak French, I'd never have started going out with my boyfriend cos I'd never have got to know him!

As we are such a multicultural society now, don't you think it's a good idea to have other language skills? As well as international trade, going abroad for a holiday. Should be be so arrogant as to expect everyone to speak English?
