My son is 6 mths old and has been sleeping through the night without a feeding for 2 mths now. He sleeps normally for about 11 hrs. I find him waking up and rustling about anywhere from 3:30 - 5:30 in the morning seeming to be trying to get back to sleep. I find that since he doesn't wake up that I don't have a chance to change his diaper and by the early morning he is sometimes soaked through his pj's. He NEVER gets diaper rash so no smart *** remarks about this. We use Sudocrem which is phenomenal at preventing this, and coat, I mean coat, it on him at night. During the day I change his diapers every 1.5 to 2 hrs or immediately if he has a poop. I am wondering if he is waking early because of a super soaked diaper and finding it hard to fall back asleep. He usually gets up at 6:30-7 am. We used to change him around 1 and 4 am when he would wake as a younger baby. Should I wake him up and change him before I go to bed to prevent this? Or just leave it? He only soaks through some night

We use huggies supreme during the day for the flex, and pampers at night for the better absorbancy. I have never used the cheaper diapers on him, I hate the way they fit.

In regards to MaPetiteHippopotame's response, I think the reason he sleeps through the night so well now, is that we stopped giving him any feeds during the night on doctors orders. He was 20 lbs at 4 mths so we were advised that he was big enough to withstand the night without food. It worked and he slept better. At first we would just change his diaper like we usually did at night then give him his pacifier and he would go right back to sleep without the bottle! Needless to say we were actually amazed. He was going to bed at 6:30 and getting up at 5:30 but now we pushed the bedtime ahead to 7:15 pm to try and get him to sleep in till 6:30 am and it seems to be working. He will sleep roughly 11 hrs no matter when his bedtime. We also use a fan to muffle any noise, have him nice and cozy in his jammies, bottle before bed, and a very, very dark room. We have blinds, then use tinfoil taped up (on the inside so no one can see) and then curtains over that (so we don't have to look at it.

We lay him in bed, kiss him goodnight, and then shut the door and sit in a chair in the room to make sure he goes to sleep ok ( a bit neurotic! but we are first timers lol!) I found that the night feedings for him were making him more restless and he would wake up every 2-3 hrs. We also used to rock him to sleep and once we stopped that it really helped too. He can now put himself back to sleep. I hope this helps in some way! If you or anyone else has any questions my email is metstark@hotmail.com.
Thanks everyone for all the answers! Also the really good diapers Huggies Overnights are not sold where we live so we can't use them. I even contacted Huggies and asked them how to get them and they told me online.

I would just let him sleep as long as he will. If he is not having any reaction to being wet, then there is no reason to wake him from a good sound sleep to change him. If he is waking up at 3:30-5:30 am and having a hard time getting back to sleep then that would be a good time to change him. But I would never wake a baby from a sound sleep to change him...unless it was a poopie running out of his diaper- that would be worth waking. Any doctor will tell you that you never wake a sleeping baby- for anything! Good luck!

IMy daughter has been sleeping thru the night for a long time and also has never had a problem with diaper rash. We used to let her sleep through with the same diaper, but had to start changing her before we go to bed when she was about 8 months old. She doesn't even wake up. she goes to sleep between 7:30-8 and we change her usually around 11:30. She's always wet at that time and has not had any leakage since we started doing this.

If he's not getting a rash from wearing his diaper that long then I'd say dont change it. If you were to start waking him to change his diaper now you could reset his internal clock to always wake up at that time and you are doing so great now with his sleeping pattern. I'm tempted to ask you what you do to have him sleep so long so early... could always use other peoples advice on things like this... Sure, you could try to change brands and see if there is one that absorbs better than another. Are you using the diapers specific for nighttime? My cousin pees through her PJ's sometimes too, this can happen!

I wouldn't wake him up to change his diaper. Just make sure you use a good absorbent diaper. We use Pampers. If you want to use cheaper diapers during the day, you can save the thicker more expensive ones for overnight.
My baby is 5mo and sleeps about 9-11 hours without waking up & getting a diaper change & so far we've never had a problem with diaper rash. I wash him good in the mornings before his first bottle & powder him.

It happened to my daughter too but only like once every 10 days so I would let her sleep even with a full diaper. I have changed her diaper while she was in her crib, quickly, and she didn't wake up. You can try that. Her sleep and my sleep were more important and she never had diaper rash either.

I handiest difference my daughter within the core of the night time if she wakes up or if she has had an overly purple backside and I do not desire it to become a diaper rash. I quite do not suppose it's indispensable to wake child as much as difference their diaper if they do not have indicators of a diaper rash approaching. To avert diaper rash I regularly placed a little bit little bit of Desitin as a preventative on my daughter and if redness happens then I use A&D to support her dermis heal.

Change the diaper without waking him if possible. Otherwise, change the diaper period. Check the time when he last feeds or drinks before going to sleep. Maybe you need to adjust. Call the doctor for advice since he knows your kid.

use a bigger diaper at night, you need to have the flaps out on the diaper too, to lock in the urine. You probably have the wrong diaper size. My daughter is 6 months and she wears a size 4 and 5 at night

Use the name brand diapers at night which are better at preventing leaks! Use the cheaper diapers during the day.
