I recently graduated from an LPN program in June. I just started a job at a long term care facility as a GPN... GRADUATE PRACTICAL NURSE... I overheard the nurse manager talking about a couple complaints that us nurses dress "too casual". However, we wear nursing uniforms... scrub pants and regular nursing tops.

Do you think us nurses need to have more of a PROFESSIONAL LOOK?

I dont' really care what nurses wear.
Whenenver I need the services of a nurse, I would feel better knowing that he/she is knowledgeable and well-qualified as opposed to being well-dressed!

IMO...it depends on the facility, but it would not hurt to look your best and to wear something that resembles a real uniform. A professional look will gain you MORE RESPECT and convey a sense of comfort for patients and make you appear more athorative.

There should be consistancy in all of the Nurses uniforms. I find it off putting to see a Nurse on duty in jeans and a tee while on the various wards. If I had a say in it, they would look something like out of an old movie with the white hats and tailored outfits. Sure it was stiff looking, but there was no mistaking a Nurse in those days with someone who just cleaned up and was a Hospital employee. Most Nurse outfits today in many Hospitals are fairly similar to custodial employees uniforms, we need to go back and decide to look more professional again.

Clean scrubs ARE the professional gear - somebody has it confused with their ancient memories. Today's uniforms are more functional and I think, less scary to most patients. They look more friendly today, the old ones looked like lab wear & the patient was an experiment !

I do think nurse should wear more professional style scrubs. White or hospital green. That's it. Stop with all the cutesy stuff- it really does look sloppy and unprofessional.

which would people have you do, primp around in nice crisp white dress uniforms....or work and get their needs met?

I'd choose, any day, clean looking but getting the needs met.

i think nurses should wear what they like because they get paid really low wadges and have to put up with a load of crap.
