My busmate borrowed a book entitled Haunted PhiLippines. These ghost stories occured in our home, the PhiLippines. Yet a few look real & scary.

One of the stories tells 2 girls and their mother visiting their Lola's [Filipino for "grandmother"] grave during All Soul's Day. The 2 girls started pLaying near their Lola's grave when they accidentally bumped a little girl. They apologized to the girl. The little girl said "ok lang yun, accident lang yun eh" (It's ok. It's only an accident). The little girl says that her place was very "easy to find", somewhere near a soda vendor. They then started playing with the little girl. Later, the little girl said "nauuhaw ako. kukuha lang ako ng softdrink" [I'm thirsty, I'll get a softdrink]. But the little girl never came back. The 2 girls tried to find her. The girls happened to find a small tomb near the soda vendor. A picture of the little girl stood next to the grave.

Do u people think this (and other ghost stories) seems scary & reaL?

People who have never seen a ghost can say all the detrimental things they want. It doesn't make the ghosts any less real. Do you want to hear one of my "encounters"?

I was 27 years old, and my family had just moved back in with my parents to help us get back on our feet. My husband was between jobs, and not looking very hard, truth to tell.

My parent's home was a bungalow that had been expanded onto by building a half storey upstairs (this means the roof lines are kept low, and most of the rooms have sloping ceilings).

One night, around this same time of year, I woke up at 4 a.m. very thirsty. I tried to ignore it for awhile and get back to sleep, but I was REALLY dry. I could have gotten a drink of water from the bathroom upstairs, but I decided I wanted juice instead. Which was only available from the main floor kitchen.

So I crawled over my husband, and downstairs in the dark. (Walking around in the dark is something I have always done since I was 16 years old because I used to be terrified of the dark when I was young. I do this to beat the terror.) When I pushed through the door at the bottom of the stairs, I noticed my father sitting in the armchair directly across from the stairs, staring towards the street.

Now, the main floor of the house is never dark at night, because of the streetlamp just 20 feet in front of the house, and the large front windows (4 X 7 ft). The armchair was sitting in the beam of light coming through that window.

From the time I started coming through that door, my father's head started turning towards me. I noticed that he was wearing beige coloured pajamas, and a robe that I didn't remember ever seeing before. And he had on leather half slippers of a type that I hadn't seen him wear since I was a child. I was just about to ask him what he was doing up at that time of the morning, when I noticed that the person COULDN'T be my father, because he had too much hair! My father was bald on top with the standard thin comb-over, and THIS man had a full head of white hair!

As soon as I realized that it was not my father, just as his eyes made contact with mine, he VANISHED.

I stood there stunned for what was probably a half minute. Then I decided that I wasn't thirtsty anymore. I put the light on to keep me company as I went back upstairs. And I was very glad to crawl into bed beside my husband.

The next morning I mentioned the encounter to my Mom. She said that the description of the man sounded very much like my father's father. But he had disappeared from my Dad's family's lives when my father was just 16 years old.

I found out from further research that he moved to Alberta and started another family there. There are no published death records for him though, so I have no way of knowing whether he died on or around October of 1978.

Many times, people who insist that ghosts aren't real are those that are the most afraid of it, so they shake it off as something ridiculous because to allow themselves to believe in it would awaken their deepest fears...

Ghosts are real, and they even have programs about it on the Discovery Channel and National Geographic where they did scientific research on haunted houses, and measured the air density levels and stuff, and it was amazing what they found, and it wouldn't make sense that millions of people around the world have had ghost experiences, and for ghosts not to be real, because it's one thing if say one person says they seen a ghost, you could cry wolf and say that they're making it up, BUT WHEN MILLIONS OF PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD and in EVERY COUNTRY have seen ghosts, and when National Geographic does programs and research on it, well then... and I just know... but you can all think what you want, and should

Some people are just so creative to come up with stories that can scare people. Well, anyway, some are too real that we can't find any point to believe.

I have seen ghosts and have had ghostly encounters too. I have heard stories that made me believe. Obviously, I believe they exist but I do believe however that they exist not to keep me from living. I see them as evil spirits trying to disturb our spiritual lives.

I'm not sure if those published in Haunted Philippines are for real, but I have experienced some unexplained happenings during my 5-years stay in a dormitory (the one run by nuns). That dorm is more than 80 years old. Creepy but memorable. (^_^)
