Avoid taking OTC drugs, if you can. They just mask symptons, and can drag a cold out longer. So unless you can't get through your day without them, stay away form them.

Drink plenty of fluids. Water, hot tea, and orange juice are your best bets. Also, rest whenever you can.

I like to supplement that with Zicam stuff, as well. Actaully, I've come to swear by it since I used it during my last few colds. I like the Cold Remedy Rapid Melts. Their stuff is zinc and not a medication. Be careful about taking it on an empty stomach.

Vitamin C is the healing vitamin and most people don't take nearly enough. Our bodies actually tell us how much Vitamin C we need - it's called Bowel Tolerance. Take vitamin C until you have Diarrhea and then back off the dosage a bit until your stools are normal. The amount we need will change as our immune system fluctuates throughout the year. Of course it is best to take it from a natural source like oranges or grapefruit (not juice however, which has been pasteurized (superheated) and therefore much of the goodness is gone). Also the fruit contains bioflavinoids which are natural anti-inflammatories, so if your nose is plugged up,they help reduce the swelling. You can buy Vitamin C (Ester C is the best since it is bound to Calcium and therefore stays in your system longer) with Bioflavinoids. Quercitin is the one to look for. It is used in natural allergy remedies as well, again because of the anti-inflammatory properties. Grape Seed Extract is useful for the same reason. Ginseng is an immune booster (the main ingredient in Cold-FX) and should be taken regularly if you are susceptible to colds. Garlic is a natural antibiotic and extremely healing and should also be taken on a regular basis. Large amounts when you have already have a cold are helpful. Capsules don't make you stinky, but if you can handle it, cut off the top of a head of garlic, drizzle with olive oil and bake until golden brown, then eat the garlic (spread it on toast - yum)

The best way to wash it out of you is to drink lots of green tea and with added cranberry juice...WORD OF WARNING NEVER DRINK CRANBERRY JUICE STRAIGHT OR YOU WILL FEEL LIKE YOU 'VE JUST BUT A MILLION SOUR LEMONS IN YOUR MOUTH.
concentrated cranberry juice needs to be diluted 3 parts water to 1 part cranberry juice.

drink half a gallon of this a day and your cold will run out of your sinuses and you'll be able to breath once again.
