She was pregnant (she gave birth in late June) and was away on maternity leave while the first episodes of the new season were being produced (remember, these shows are shot months before they air). She'll be back. In the storyline, her character's gone deep undercover, so we'll probably get a pretty juicy episode when she returns.

Olivia(Mariska Hargitay) is on an undercover mission for the FBI. In real life she recently had a baby boy so she is on maternity leave. The other woman is only going to be on the show for 6 episodes then Olivia will be back(thank goodness).
