Both Psycho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre were inspired by rural Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein, who killed at least two people and dug up the graves of many more in the 1940s and 1950s. He is known to have skinned the dead and fashioned objects and “clothes” from body parts—hence Chainsaw’s Leatherface. (For those who don’t know, Leatherface is the big monster with the subpar dental work and the chainsaw; he wears a mask of human skin.) Gein also allegedly ate parts a few of his victims, a theme Jeffrey Dahmer would also pick up on. I’ve also read that Buffalo Bill, the serial killer in Thomas Harris’s Silence of the Lambs, was modeled after Gein as well.

For the sake of readability, i think like I ought to declare that there replaced into no particularly, genuine-existence Texas Chainsaw massacre. the flicks are completely fictional and the unique action picture is declared to have been based on the acts of genuine-existence serial killer Ed Gein, who perpetrated his murders in Wisconsin. the unique action picture does not have a particular area, genuine or fictional. all of us understand from the call that this is meant to ensue someplace in Texas. The action picture replaced into shot in the Hill us of a (often happening Texas). From the timber and nation-state, West Texas, South Texas, and the Panhandle would be ruled out.

They base it off a man who killed a lot of people. He did not use a chainsaw and it didn't actually happen in Texas. They just made a lot of stuff up to make it more interesting.

I put a link in where they movie's creator explained where he got the idea for the movie. It's not actually based on real events when it comes to a person cutting up people with a chainsaw. The character however is based on Ed Gein.

Not the way we've been led to believe; It was actually based on a serial killer/cannibal from, I think, the midwest in the late 60's?
