The Welsh dragon does not appear on the Union Flag. This is because when the first Union Flag was created in 1606, the Principality of Wales by that time was already united with England and was no longer a separate principality

As Wales was annexed by Edward the first in 1282 and under the Laws in Wales Acts 1535 - 1542 Wales is legally a part of England and, as such is represented by the Cross of St. George on the Union Flag.

Because Wales wasn't, and often still isn't, considered a country because it was under English control. Shame though, the Welsh flag is the best of all!

For the same reason Cornwall is not represented. Wales is a principality and Cornwall is a Duchy of the United Kingdom. Both are somewhere between a county and a country.

because Wales was a principality not a kingdom, so it's flag was not incorporated into the union flag

I thought it was because they were the last to fall under English rule. And they did not want to be part of the UK, hence why they still hae their own assembly.

Though this is all a bit hypocritical as the Welsh assembly has less power then the Scottish Parliament.

technically, the NI flag isnt on it either, but they get away with it because its similar to the English flag

It should be it is one of the 4 counties that make up the UK!!! Equal rights etc!!!
