Quite a trek, quite a trek! Mayfield Gdns is just south of where I live, and I can't even be bothered to walk to Edinburgh University everyday (it's even closer than the castle). Buy a bus day ticket for £2.30 - save your energy and enjoy the experience! Hmm, I can't really remember but it's either 30 and 33 or 7, 37 and 47 that you can take from Mayfield Gdns to the city centre. (From where I live, it's 30 and 33. Cross a block to the west, and it's 7, 37 and 47.)

Hello Audrey

100% facts are here as I live in Edinburgh. It will take you 10 - 15 mins to walk to city centre and castle it a straight walk. You can also get the bus for £1 each way however you can get a full day ticket for £2.30. Lothian buses 3 3a 26 will al go by where you are staying.

To castle walk towards city centre 10mins then turn left at high street (royal mile) road has stone on it. Walk up road half mile and you in the grounds of the castle car park.

If you ago to castle for 1pm you'll see the one oclock gun being fired. MON - SAT not on Sunday. Other sights to see are Royal Scottish Museum ON Chamber Street and Hollyrood Palace other end of Royal mile from castle.

Have a nice time.

Can theluckyhedgehog have 10 points please, for being so smart?

I live in Edinburgh too, i'd say it's @ 25 minutes walking distance to the castle. I stay halfway between the two, and would say it takes around 12 and a half minutes to go to either place! The buses are free on Hogmanay (New Years Eve) Have a nice time
