I love my dog; its personality is always cheerful and unlike my cat; even when the positive rewards stop (i.e. petting treats) the dog will sometimes stay with me or just chill like part of the family. I know cats in Africa are social pack hunters, but others around the world such as mountain lions, panthers, cheetas, and tigers seem less social; don't know the answer but maybe house cats evolved from such families and are less social than dogs which are thought to have very social ancestors.
P.S. To think that you own your pet is a little naive; on paper maybe. But my dog gets free food and housing + walks and activity time, if only I were so smart as to persuade someone in doing the same for me.

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. I like the cats because they are so very soft, I love to hear them purr, and they are low maintenence. But having said that I laugh my @ss off at my Basset Hound and my Chiuahuah in a way that no cat could ever make me laugh. I love my dogs for the pure entertainment of having dogs.

I love both! I grew up with both at the moment i have 3 cats. 2 inside 1 outside. Metric female, Mako male, and the one outside is Cypress female. All rescue cats.

Dogs are my favorite but I love all animals. I have a rented cat outside, he comes to eat and belongs to someone who by appearances wasn't feeding him. I am hoping he will keep some of the critters away.

That's like asking me to choose a favorite child. My pets are a part of my family. I love them all equally - cats, dogs, horse, and hamster.

I live in an apartment and have no yard so I now have cats, but I really would prefer to have dogs.

I have a 7 month old Beagle named Rosco and we love him right to pieces. He's very affectionate and is great with my 4 year old son.

I have both ... can't decide. I like a dog's loyalty, but, the same time, I love a cat's attitude.
