what is to be found? it is: what fraction of his collection is his sis's and not torn?

let his collection be x stamps

so, x/4 was given by his sis

of which 2/3rd were torn...or 1/3rd were not torn

that is x/4 * 1/3 were from his sis and not torn

or, x/12

so 1/12 th of his collection is from his sis's and not torn!

hope it is not tooooo late!

1/4 of 2/3 so you have to get a common denomenator which is 12 so 3/12 of 8/12 which is (3/12) / (8/12) so for fractions you multiply by the recipricol which is (3/12) x (12/8) = 36/96 and can be reduced to 6/16 and can be further reduced to 3/8 and your answer is 3/8.
