They were justified all along. However, the removal of the French threat to the colonies enabled the colonies to express their grievances with England without fear of falling under the rule of the French.

The King's powers over English citizens were limited by Parliament but he had no such limits regarding the American colonies....and he took advantage of that.

The interesting thing is that although the colonists were aggrieved about taxes, they were paying infinitely less than British (English)!
