New mothers are notoriously nervous when others hold the baby. Don't worry, there will come a time, about 4-6 months when she will be more than happy for a little break time. Be nice to her until then and you will have a good relationship with her that can carry forward to the time when you have a baby and you worry about HER hold it.

Of course! I think that you are definetly old enough to hold a baby, and not be careless. But some new parents are just weird like that. Trust me sometimes they think that they are the only ones that have EVER had a baby, therefore that makes them the only ones that are good enough to know how to take care of their children. I am 18, and I have been holding new borns since I was like ten by myself.

The sister-in-law/new mom has control issues. She's worried about the baby. BE NICE. Love the new baby and wait for her hormones to calm down a little. I'm a labor and delivery nurse and I see this all the time. Your new niece or nephew will be playing with you all the time before you know it.

Lemme tellyou...when i had my fist child my siter and my brother came over then they were 16 and 10. And as a new mother and after sucha painful long extenuating wait i just wanted to hold my baby and never letgo. Consider that a newborn is a mother's most precious and valuable possesion. She only handed it over to ur mother(or hers) because she had to, but not because she wanted to! You guys should just give her space for now...being in labor and delivering a baby is not easy. All she wants is to hold it.

In a couple of days when she's home, sleep deprived and tired of the clingy baby then offer to hold it. she will more than likely hand it over! All she'll want then is sleep!
Congrats!

Yes, you should be able to. I held my nephew within minutes of his birth and it's something I'll never forget.

However, given the way you just posted, it's no wonder she didn't want you to hold the baby. You act like you're 5, whining about your sister. Stop acting like a child and maybe she wouldn't have done it.

It's a mother and father's right to decide who holds their child. It may have upset you but it's not your place to assert a right to hold the baby.

Over time, your sister-in-law will probably ease up. In the meantime, just support her and show her that her child would be safe in your care.

Yes, you should be allowed to hold your niece/nephew. He/she is your blood relation and of course you want to have a cuddle. it will be a different story down the track a bit and she is looking for someone to baby sit. Talk to your brother if you can. You are only concerned because you care.

I think your sister in law has a case of jealousy. If she doesn't lose it now, it will have a bad effect on the baby as he/she gets older. Grandparents and aunts/uncles should be allowed to hold babies, that's how they bond.

I don't really understand about your mother making faces.....was she angry or was she just playing with the baby. I'm sure as time goes on you will get your chance with the baby.....sometimes younger sisters can be frustrating....they OFTEN get their own way. I know...I'm 17 and my sister is 12....Its the way it is.....we just have to live with it
