we put up our tree after we get home from Thanksgiving dinner, and i insist that everyone help put it up, we make ornaments. And all through the month of December we play Christmas movies, burn candles that smell like pine trees or cinnamon anything thats christmas. My daughter loves Christmas, we watch Ernest saves Christmas, Elf, Santa Clause 1 and 2 and theres a new one coming out pretty soon. We also have our pictures taken every year in front of the tree, it makes it so much more special that way and you can have you pets in there too, so it truly is a family photo. We also drive around town looking at everybodys decorations.

Best of luck to ya and I know your family will start your own traditions.

we usually make Christmas cut out cookies one weekend in December and let the little ones do most of it, decorate and all, we usually make a few homemade Christmas decorations, drive around and look at lights is always a tradition, we go in our youngest daughters van now and usually take along snacks, for us it is usually a couple bags of pop corn and each of us a pop or else a bag of popcorn with M&M's in it too...lol we like to go when it is snowing or has snowed and show the little ones the pretty lights, we also watch for any Christmas shows on TV or showing locally, we try hard not to be big spenders and on Christmas Day we play Bingo, everyone wraps up a White Elephant gift and they can choose if they Bingo then they can trade or give it away, it always is a lot of laughs...............we always play a lot of board games on Christmas day and take lots of pictures, also we try to give the home made cookies to some of the older people we know along with a small useful gift such as a pretty dish towel with a christmas picture on it or a homemade christmas decoration, they always love that! Have fun mostly!

I started a new tradition for my grandchildren. Instead of ornaments, I cover the tree with lots of $1 items..little toys. They love coming in and seeing what's different as they try to decide what they are going to pick when the time comes. They enjoy this even more than the bigger gifts. They make all my decorations for my windows (paper snowflakes which don't look tacky). I also get them involved with my little Christmas give away. Learning to do for others is important this time of year..the donate their old toys and help me purchase little things to give to other children.

My husband and I stay up late watching the old christmas movie and have a fire going all the lights are out except the tree also.

I take my son to a local church and watch there christmas special service and we always go see the christmas train pass through our town also. On christmas day we light a candle with three wicks in it to remember three family memebers on my husbands side that have past away.

Sounds like you have it all worked out. Have a good one.

well as far as my family is concerned we invite the neighborhood over for Christmas eve, have a large party, let the kids watch mickey mouse Christmas cartoons, and talk about Christmases gone past.

Christmas day, even if its 100 degrees, theres a warm toasty fire a Christmas carol on the TV, even if its on DVD and me on the coach sipping some cocoa

I also have recently lost my father, and it's really going to be differant without him. I give you much credit for embracing your new family. Go x-mas caroling with your children, many nursing homes love to have people come in and do sing alongs. We decorate the outside of our house with multiple light and wreathes. Start decorating the day after Thanksgiving and have x-mas music going all the time.

Don't forget the reindeer food if your srepchildren are small. Mix up a bag with oatmeal and glitter and spread it out in your yard on Christmas Eve night.

something my family does every year is picks out a tree together and while we're decorating we listen to christmas music and drink lots of egg nog. sometimes even do silly dances.
we have stockings for some of the animals and let both dogs and our cat inside on christmas day. it's fun to have them playing around the house. we also have gifts from "santa" sitting un-wraped on the couch .

O.K. If you have a fire place, On Christmas eve, you cut out a foot print that looks like a shoe or boot, you get a sifter, and put baking soda in it, you place the foot print as if it is walking out of the fire place and sift the soda over it. and walk it over to the tree making the soda lighter as you get closer to the tree. You'll need to remember to flip the foot print so it has a left and right foot. It then looks like Santa walked over to the tree and snow fell off his boots as he was walking. And, since it's Chrismas snow, it doesn't melt.
