It depends You can get some real great deals on guitars on e-bay, made in china starting at 1 cent. S & H will be high. If it breaks you will have a hard time getting your money back. You can go to a pawn shop ar get one in the paper. Walmart for about 100-$150.00 if it breaks or something you can take it back. If you a serious about learning guitar go to a small music store and ask. They should steer you in the right direction. A small shop is usually run by the owner and they want to sell guitars but they also want positive word of mouth advertising and should give you the straight goods. Make sure you like the sound coming fron the instrument.

The previously mentioned Walmart First Act.
At a pawn shop or maybe a used guitar at a music store.
If possible take a guitar player to check it out. They know how to check the "action", maybe see if it stays in tune when bending strings, string buzzing, things like that which you probably know nothing about.
Good Luck!!!

Check thrift stores, garage sales, classified ads and eBay! You'll probably have to do a pretty good amount of digging in order to find a good deal.
