How about Priestley, Lavoisier, Dalton, Mendeleyev, Rutherford, the Curies, Roentgen, Fermi and Einstein, Bohr.... just for starters...

you'll have to do some research to figure that out. I would say Meendelev's periodic table is up there. Also perhaps the discovery of the atom, but that perhaps could be broken down into smaller discoveries as the model of the atom evolved, such as Rutherford's electron experiment.
