I went to London when I was in my 20s (so about 10 years ago LOL) and stayed in a youth hostel like you are.

here is what I recommend:

1. High Street Kensington:

there is a tube stop for this area. It is soooo cool!! Its kind of funky, like greenwich village, NYC but in a cool London way much better. Lots of neat, funky and unusual stores. also, things here are affordable! also, lots of trendy things.

I was told to go here from my boyfriend at the time who had traveled there and his sister loved it.

2. I also went to the Dungeon place and I thought it was sooo neat. Really well done and better then anything I had ever seen in the US. I am really into halloween so loved that place. it also teaches you about the history of London.

I was only there for a few days so can't tell you too much. I did go to a few touristy spots and thought Piccadilly Circus was neat to see, like Times Square but nicer. Big Ben was boring...but nearby I think in or near westminster abbey there is this place you can go to see some very rare books, and I think THE first book printed. I did go there too, it was very interesting.

also, I would think it neat now to go see Isaac newtown's grave like they did in the Da Vinci Code.

I also ate in "little Italy"....I made a friend while there (an american) who had lived there and suggested we eat in Little Italy. While we were eating, Bob Geldof walked RIGHT by us! (this was an open air type cafe place).

ps- bring a rain coat it rains a lot there.

Visit the Museum of London, walk along the Thames by City Hall, go to The National Portrait Gallery and go to the Central Criminal Court and watch a trial.

London Eye - the journey will cost you about 15 pounds or 30 USD notwithstanding the view are breath-taking and the journey lasts for 1/2-hour. notwithstanding i stumbled on it expensive, i'm satisfied we did it. Tower of London- The Tower of London promises brilliant view of Tower Bridge (regularly wrong for London Bridge) and also homes in that's center the crown jewels and a museum committed to weaponry. be responsive to the Beefeaters (the guardsmen) who gained't provide help to take images of jewels, they looked as if it would function on a three strikes and also you're out rule, I stated a minimum of seven people get kicked out. British Museum- This museum is giant and larger of of that's loose! there's a Starbucks in the technique the line which could assist you regain each and every of the skill you spent vacationing in the technique the historic previous of the international. In Rick Steves' London 2007 guidebook there's a unprecedented self-guided excursion that I followed to assist me see what i had to work out in an orderly way. Covent backyard- a unprecedented party district. Hyde Park- Hyde Park is nice for a picnic lunch or some downtime. There are a large number of people playing football or basically laying out on the backyard. that's massive and intensely sparkling. i develop into warned to stay faraway from right here at evening though. Piccadilly Circus- Piccadilly Circus is a touch neat position for procuring in the course of the day time yet at evening it lighting fixtures up and is fairly brilliant. Parliament/enormous Ben- vacationing enormous Ben is a ought to yet after snapping some images be particular to envision out the scene in the technique the line behind you. The protesters are continuously there protesting some thing. Buckingham Palace- The replacing of the guards, elect I say better? London Dungeons- We got here right here hostile to the advice of guidebooks and now I comprehend why they stated to no longer hardship with it. It develop into tacky as all get out notwithstanding it develop right into a relaxing thanks to cut up our day. If that's raining I say bypass for it. The Dungeons is amazingly very resembling a "haunted abode" form putting you'll discover at your interior of reach straightforward except they placed each and every thing in a historic context. They communicate about Jack the Ripper, the plague, and so on and they take care of to make it exciting. when you're short on time though, do not hardship.

People are going to say London Dungeon, it was cool about 10 years ago, now it's overpriced & the ride sucks.
Go to the museums, my mother took me to Hunterian (sic?) and there were things in jars from hundreds of years ago!!
Thousands of them, it was nuts!! I wanted to spend hours in there but we couldn't. Also, Portobello Market has some great buys & it's so much fun to walk around.

Have a blast! See a show, get your tix at half price in Leicester Sq.

the best place to visit in my opinion is Hyde park's speakers corner on Sunday. people over there babble like crazy, its also great to see two grown men going "nah-uh!" "yah -huh!" over nonsense.
