Insect bites produce histermine which is why we take anti-histermine to combat it. Histermine makes you itch like hell and unfortunately the more you scratch - the worse it gets as you are spreading it. It's a pain.

because they leave behind a small amount of non-leathal acid when they bite, it just irritates, it doesn'tdo any harm to the human whatsoever though. And the bite goes down after a while.

i think they have something in them when they bite you then it makes a person itch...i do not need that because i itch all the time...it is a bad case of nerves or allergic to something...

well they release FORMIC ACID in the body. simply speaking, any acid stings and burns, and formic acid certainly does.(also called methanoic acid)
