ram will not make a game graphics faster, that is done by the graphic card and cpu,ram will just make it load quicker and you will return to the desktop quicker without having to wait 20 minutes for all your icoms to re-appear
a decent amount of ram for any p.c is between 768mb and 1.5gb ram, this gives you ample memory to run games as well as everything else that is going on in the background(anti-virus,processes)
as for your graphics, you can get a decent card(agp or pci-express) for less than £50,what you need to look for is a)graphic memory(go for at least 128mbram but 256 if possible) and more inportant b)pixel and shader model(modern cards have p+s model 2.0 but you can buy a ge-force 6200 for £45 and that has pixel and shader model 3.0)
a great card that will run the sims perfectlly is a nvidia ge-force 6200,this has 256mb ram and pixel and shader model 3.0,use this link to find the best deal on this card...http://www.misco.co.uk/productinformation/~510331~WW~/GeFORCE%206200%20256MB%20DDR%20AGP%20DVI%20TV.htm
if you want a cheaper card a ati radeon 9550 has pixel and shader model 2.0 which would run the sims fine and will run most other modern games, just not at high resolutions, for a good deal on a radeon 9550 go to http://www.misco.co.uk/productinformation/~75471~WW~/CONNECT3D%20RADEON%209550%20256MB%20DDR%2BTV%2BDVI%20128BIT.htm
the sims dosent really need a high performing card so if you can find a 2nd hand ge-force 4 mmx card that would run it fine
good luck

the biggest in your list above is 1 GB. There are mathematical equations that help you decide how much more to add to your computer... but i never took the classes to calculate that sort of stuff. If you're playing a computer game like the SIMS you might want to have the most memory that you could get. Find out how much your computer is upgradable to and go from there.

GOOD LUCK!

If, when you play Sims, the hard drive light is flashing constantly then upgrading the memory will speen things up. I would go for 512 minimum and 1gb (1024mb) if you can afford it.

If the frame rate is consistantly slow and the hard drive light is flickering only ocationally, its probably the CPU and/or the graphics card. This would probably mean to need to upgrade your whole PC.

Computer performance is affected by many parameters other then RAM, RAM size should be determined by computer function. Just because you may have a gb of RAM doesnt mean your speed will increase, optimal performance requires evaluating start up programs, file fragmentation, resource usage and a miriad of other tweaks.

1 gig is more than 256 and 512. You should put the most RAM in your computer that you can afford to increase the performance.

RAM, (or Random Access Memory) doubles at start of 128mb. ie. 128...256....512...1024,(gb)........
This has nothing really to do with the speed of your pc.....if your RAM fills up then your pc will use virtual memory,(which is a chosen mb from your hard drive).Try scanning your pc for viruses,ad-ware and spy-ware, then clear and defrag your drive.
If this fails get a more up to date pc or stop playing crap games.

that would matter on the motherboard. you will could look up the specs on the manufacturers internet site. i could have concept so, yet older boards had the priority the place, it may in basic terms run say a million slot at 3200, and 2 slots had to be run at 2700... you will could envision. The TECHNICAL answer to you question is, 'sure' nevertheless. you may positioned PC3200 in, yet while it quite is not supported, it will in basic terms run at PC2700 speeds
