and suppose that it is better, does that mean if I answer all the questions I know, and leave the ones I don't know blank....I will get a higher score than if I answer all the questions I know and try answering the ones I don't?

because I heard they deduct 1/4 of a point every time you get a question wrong, but they don't deduct anything if you simply leave it blank?

It's better to guess on the ones that you don't know. You have more of a chance of getting the questions that you don't know right then if you don't answer them at all.

Here's a rule of thumb: Guess if you can eliminate at least one answer choice, as you won't get penalized, according to probability. For example, if you don't know the answer to 5 questions but can eliminate one item from each, then you will likely get 4 wrong and 1 right. This gives you zero points, so you don't lose anything. And if you can eliminate more than one answer choice, then the odds are that your score will be increased from guessing.

Though if you can't eliminate any of the choices, don't guess.

Yep -- guess. Any question you don't answer at all is considered wrong, so as the other poster mentioned if you guess you at least have a 25% chance of being right, if you leave it blank you have a 100% chance of getting it wrong!

You have a higher chance in guessing. First solve all the problems you do know and then go back to the ones you dont , try you best if not guess. Alot of answers can be common sense

personally i would make a guess on the ones you don't know. there is always a chance you might get them right, giving you a higher score. just don't take too much time on them before you move on to the next question so that you don't run out of time.

My son is currently taking the SAT and was told by The Princeton Review not to answer questions he absolutely doesn't know. You will lose points but if you omit questions you will not lose any points.
As I told my son if you feel sure or almost certain you are correct by all means answer it but if you know you don't know the answer skip it.

Good Luck with your SAT.

You get penalized if you answer incorrectly. The odds are good if you narrow the choices down to two answers and pick one.

if it comes down to the answer being between 2 choices then take the chance....if you really dont know then leave it alone
