Im trying to use the BitPim software to modify some settings in my I870 phone. The software doesnt recognize the phone. Im not sure if the phone is not supported by the software yet, or if im just doing someting wrong. The usb drivers are already installed for the phone and its recognized by windows.

Ok, first off, BitPim does NOT support iDen phones, which is what yours is - Motorola/iDen Nextel.

So, you are stuck with the iDen software. Now, you cannot 'modify' your phone settings. Those come factory installed and are locked down by your carrier. You can however avail yourself of the FREE software that iDen has made available for your phone ( a fact Sprint won't tell you about)

go there and get your phone book manager, and if you have 'my pictures' or "media center' as one of your available functions, you can use the media downloader too (that gets the pics and vids off your phone and into your PC for you)
There are also firmware upgrades available free that may help your phone and enable java applications on that site.
