How can I go from San Francisco to Las Vegas?

Does anyone know of any cheap flights or good bus companies? Should we try to drive there? How long will it take?

If you will drive, try bringing along somebody who will alternate with you. You might get low back pain.
From San Francisco to San Diego, it took us, at least 6 hours and from San Diego to Nevada is also a long drive. We had 2 separate trips to both destinations and it was really tiring.
I suggest that you take a plane going there and just rent a car once you arrive there.

Probably the cheapest airline would be Southwest. They don't fly out of SFO any longer, but they do have non-stops from Oakland to Las Vegas. I wouldn't recommend driving. It takes almost 9 hours. Flying takes about an hour and a half and averages about $200.

It takes a while due to the mountains/routes, etc. You basically have to go near LA, or to Reno and south; neither one is an attractive route. Check a travel site like orbitz or travelocity to see if there's any deals. Also take a look at southwest, and the weekly airline specials.

American flies non-stop for $282 (I assumed 10/9 departure and 10/10 return) from San Jose to Vegas.

You're looking at a 9 hour drive. Bus would take longer.
