I play guitar not keyboards but the theory is the same.
Chords are made up of notes of the scale and just as different notes have a different sound, different chords also have a different sound.

When you say that you play c, f and g, further study will show you that these chords are related to their root within the scale of c. In other words they fit together - in the same key. I also assume that you mean that you play the "major" chords; if you played the same chord/scale but with different notes within it you would still be playing the same chords but you could be playing minor, 7ths, etc and they would all have different sounds. Try to find out how to play c minor and compare it with c major and you find that the minor has a "sad" sound to it.

If you learn differnt chords you will expand the sound of your music and you will find that different songs sound better in different keys.

Take a short time to look at musical theory; it isn't boring and knowledge will enrich your music.

When I learnt to play the organ, a well as having lessons, I had "The Complete Organ Player" books. The books broke down the chords and made them quite simple to read. I think they do a version called "The Complete Keyboard Player" which you could find on E-Bay. They are written by Kenneth someone and I am sure you would find them helpful. Otherwise, book a few lessons and see how you get on with them.
