I am in favor of gay marriage as homosexuals are taxpayers and citizens just as heterosexuals are, so IMHO gays and lesbians should have the same rights as heterosexual taxpaying citizens, including the right to marry in the venue of their choosing, to have their marriages recognized under the law and to raise children if they choose to do so.

For. Gay people should be allowed to be miserable too. Okay, that's not really my answer. There are a lot of psychological effects that will help gay people sustain longer relationships if marriage is legalised. The average gay relationship doesn't last more than 5 years, but if they are married they will have an incentive to stay together.

Also, there are tax and inheritance benefits that gay people are being denied which could be fixed by legalizing gay marriage.

Marriage has been a union between one man and one woman for many many years. It's worked all that time. There's no reason to change. What two men do together in bed, disgusting as it is, is none of anybody's business, but it's not a marriage, by my definition.
The argument that the law does not define marriage as between one man and one woman doesn't mean a thing. It doesn't say that a woman can't marry six men, four women and a couple of dogs either. Does that mean she should be permitted to do so ? If a law is passed that says two people can legally marry. Why just two ? Why just people ?
My wife and I were married in the traditional way fifty-three years ago. We are more in love than we were at the wedding. That, to me, is a marriage.

Against. Marriange is between a man and a woman. It is a label. Marriage should be diiferentiated between a homosexual union because it is NOT the same thing.

However, I am not against gay civil unions. They do deserve the same legal rights as a married couple.

I am for gay marriage because it upsets me that homosexuals aren't allowed equal rights. I believe they should be allowed to get married, not be offered some other "union" with similar rights that's called something else. Already, that union is not viewed as highly as marriage is. They should be allowed to marry, and this is because most people do not view marriage as a religious ceremony anymore. It's the highest form of commitment and union and everyone should be allowed to have it.

I'm for it!

Why should we deny 2 people that love each other to express how much they love each other by getting married. They were born gay like we were born straight. Live and let live. Even the constitution says..."the pursuit of happiness". And if thats what makes them happy, I say go for it and be happy.

People with hang ups use the bible to justify how they feel about gay people. They forget, the bible was written by man... not god.

If we deny gays the right to be hapy and married are we not acting as god? And thats worse then using the bible.

I'm not for or against it. If gays wish to marry so be it.
This is not an issue a government by and for the people should be involved in. I have serious objection to legislating personal morality.
