There are many good books it is impossible to single one out but I would mention "The Road Less Travelled" By Scott Beck. Worth its weight in Gold (Or gasoline if you drive SUV.)

"Shogun" by James Clavell
Its super long and detailed, but if you like historical novels which are factual and filled with drama, action and love, this Japanese based novel is extraordinary. I couldn't put it down.
If you are interested in Japan, I would recommend getting a beginning Japanese language book too because there are a
lot of Japanese phrases in "Shogun".
