Well there's always franchising but that typically involves significant investment. There are a great many home based business companies out there and the average start up is around $500.
If the company provides the opportunity to make money through leverage (i.e. other people's efforts, time and money) make sure their product also makes sense. There's a lot of "magic potion" type products on the market that are just an excuse for a differential compensation plan.
Look for a real void in the market place and a company that is attempting to fill it.
I also recommend sticking with services. There are some great opportunities in travel, Internet marketing, legal plans and identity theft protection as well as in finance. Whatever you do expect to have to put some work in.
The biggest mistake people make in the home based business industry is sign an application or make a small investment and expect the work to do itself. No matter how good the product service or system it will still take work. I started with a company just over a year ago and replaced my full time income within 6 months so it is possible but only if you take responsibility and take consistent steps toward your goals.

I work from home in shorts and T-shirts and sometimes topless.
