Lets face it, being a teenager brings on a whole new level of stress and peer pressure. And unfortunately, most kids buckle under such weight so they arent labled as socially unacceptable. A good amount of my peers, female and male, suffer from eating disorders, reckless drinking and partying and drug use. Now im no saint, ive had my fair share of ED's and i drink (in small amounts). I dont make excuses for my behavior, but Ive noticed that these reckless attitudes have become some what "acceptable" and no big deal anymore. Does anybody else think there is a direct correlation between bad habits and the number of accidents in teens? (rapes, car wrecks, suicides)? Why has it become socially acceptable to get tanked at a party? At a certian time, it isnt 'cool" anymore. What do you think is the worst habit of young people, and at what percent is it their fault, and what percent is it society's fault? nice answers please!

Disrespect for their fellow students and lack of discipline. The line between discipline and abuse is fine, and unfortunetely, this means most parents don't do enough to crack down on their children. This is partially the parents fault, and partially what we see a lot of on TV shows.

A combination of nature and nurture. Some people are genetically more likely to become an alcoholic, and I think that a lot of the other things you mentioned can come with heavy drinking. Also involved are the parents, the media, schools, and probably most importantly a person's friends. If your friends drink, smoke, do drugs, and have sex, you are a lot more likely to engage in those activities than someone whose friends don't.
I think that they are all the worst habit because they put a young person's life in danger. They could drive drunk and crash into a tree (or another car, killing an innocent, sober person), become HIV positive, or become lifelong addicts and end up begging on the streets for a little money to get high. I believe that you are as you're raised, and that nothing is 100% your fault, and doing any of those things certainly does not make you a bad person, but I would hope that you will be able to stop doing those things for the sake of your family, your friends, but most importantly for your sake, because you only get one life, and once it's gone you can't get it back.

Speak for yourself. I'm 27 and still like getting drunk, but I guess I don't act like Frank the Tank anymore. In fact now I just stick with beer.

People mature at different speeds. In fact up until age 20ish or so I'd say guys mature faster than girls, but then girls really mature much quicker, so that by age 25 they are probably more mature. With guys its a much more gradual process, whereas many girls quit the college mentality rather suddenly and start acting like a 30yr old at age 22.

The thing about the teenage years is to survive them until you come to your senses again.
It's all raging hormones.
The human brain doesn't mature until age 25.
Until then, they should be kept in very comfortable mental hospitals.

The response of "whatever". Example : Mom: " Sally, you should be careful driving while talking on your cell phone it's dangerous". Sally: "Whatever !" (It means to me " Your opinion is worthless, and I don't want to hear it or argue about it") It is rude and no one should accept being treated that way.
