i was researching this and can not seem to find a clear winner. any help?

The 1950 tournament was held in Brazil.

England were among the favourites but failed to live up to expectations. A notable result was their 0-1 loss to the USA. English papers back home, actually thought there was a mistake in the telegraphed reply of the match result and printed the score as England 10 USA 0.

There were no knockout games, with the 4 Group winners, entering a final group to decide the winners. The 4 were Spain, Sweden, Uruguay and red hot favourites *** hosts, Brazil.

Brazil trounced Sweden and Spain, 7-1 and 6-1 respectively, and needed just a draw in their final match with Uruguay. Uruguay were the only team that had a chance to deny Brazil, because they had defeated Spain 3-2, after being held 2-2 by Sweden.

The final group match (considered the Final by many) saw them playing Brazil before a crowd in access of 150,000, at the famed Maracana Stadium. The Uruguayans needed a win, but their hopes looked dashed, when Brazil went ahead just after half-time. Brazil would pour forward for a second goal, but against the run of play, Uruguay equalised in the 66th minute.

As Brazil were in 2 minds whether to attack or hold out, they made some glaring errors which they never did in all the other games. In a sudden counter attack around the 80th minute, Alcides Ghiggia put Uruguay ahead.

Brazil then threw everything into attack, but a combination of post, bar, miscues and goalkeeper denied them that elusive 2nd goal.

Against all odds, Uruguay triumphed, winning their 2nd World Cup. There were scenes of utter disbelief and despair for the home fans. A few even took their own lives, unable to bear bets lost and grief at this unexpected loss.

Uraguay gained the cup. there became no 'very final' that year because of the fact the excellent 4 communities performed a league and in actually fact the final journey became Brazil v Uraguay and so its now known because of the fact the excellent because it became the figuring out journey. a youthful Pele consoled his father and informed him to no longer cry, he would win it for him.....and of direction he did. thrice.
