It doesn't matter since each game is independent. Losing with a set of numbers doesn't increase their chance of winning in the next game.

Usually, in state lotteries, the prize money is split among all the winners, so you want there to be as few other winners as possible. If you pick a "common" set of numbers, you increase the chances that other people are playing the same numbers.

The odds of winning a single state's "Megabucks" is less than being struck by lightning. The odds of winning the semi-national "Power-ball" are an order of magnitude less than that.
