About a year ago I bought some silver bars on Ebay. I bought them from a powerseller with a good rating so I felt safe. A little over a month ago I took them out of the plastic bubbles they were in and put them in some airtite capsules. One of them is now discolored badly. Kind of a brownish green burnt color. How normal is this? I plan on reselling them on Ebay soon. Does the discoloring have anything to do with the authenticity of the silver?

The plastic they were in could have contained PVC, this can cause a green slime over time. There are other things in some plastics that can cause tarnish. Where there chemicals near where you stored the bars. Unless sealed somehow most airtite capsules are not air tight, also there was air in there when you sealed them. I also don't know if you are talking art bars, or just plain old silver bars. If art bars dip them, if not, no one should care. See a coin dealer for the dip, coinsolv is one. It will remove tarnish, but won't hurt the bar. I have a buffalo nickel that is blue and purple and would not change it for the world.

Sounds like tarnish, which is pretty normal, particularly for sterling. You should be able to get it off with some heavy duty silver polish (I like Wright's silver cream). If not, take it to a jeweler and they should be able to clean it for you.

Silver is still silver and it will go black too in it's present state. look at siver brought up from treasures in the ocean...JET black and does not even look like silver at all..does not deteriorate the value.
You should have kept it in the original packages...your fingerprints started the colour changes with the oils in your skin.
