Upgrading into a knowledge economy requires a different mindset. Encouraging this mindset, however, defy cultural and social value, and norms. Discuss. Relate to the Singapore context.

It will be good for you to do some thinking yourself... not least, so you too can join the knowledge economy:-)

Do you have a cultural norm in Singapore that men are economic decision-takers and women, even if working, are the supplementary income in the family? Might the knowledge economy require some (intelligent) women to earn more than their husbands?

What about when a highly trained but still young (25, 27 yr old) graduate is earning more than, and intellectually knows more than, his grandfather? How does that affect respect for the elderly, especially among the Chinese?

How about the use of English? How does it affect the culture when people are working so much in a foreign language?
