Well this is a simple pathagorous problem. Basically, you are making 2 triangles. You need to know that A^2 + B^2 = C^2

Each triangle is 8^2 + 8^2 = C^2

or

64 + 64 = C^2 = or the square root of 128

it is just over 11 (11 x 11 = 121)

Now, double the answer you have (because you have 2 hypotenuses)
So the FINAL answer should be just over 22!!!

Take one car.
It drives 8 miles, then another 8 at right angle.
Use Pythagoras theorem
Distance from starting point is Square Root of 8^2 + 8^2
64 + 64 = 128
Square Root of 128 is 11.3137

Second car has travel as far in the opposite direction, so add the 2 together 22.6274 Miles

bout 11 each car travels 4 miles for them to be 8 miles apart, I drew a line on a paper 1 inch long to represent that 8 miles. Then the cars drive another 8 miles meaning 4 miles each, I drew 2 half inch lines to represent 4 miles each, then measured from end of line to end of line. just short of inch and a half.

if you mean how many miles they are apart by driving the same roads then the answer is 32 miles. If you meant as the crow flies it would be 16 diagonally. Thought of it as a square with center as starting spot.

D=16* squaroot(2) miles
You can get the answer from the try angle.

16 √2 as the crow flies.

They are at opposite corners of a square 16miles on a side.

It is 32 miles by the roads they took.
