My husband and I have a one bedroom apartment and are planning on staying there after the baby is born. At least for a while. (Rent is really cheap and using extra $ to pay off bills so we will be able to buy a nice house). Anyone in this situation and how did you make it work? The baby will obvously have to be in our room. Any baby things that are a must or thing that you can go without?

Right after the baby is born, you will want the baby near you. So having to share a bedroom with the little one won't be so bad. (just don't sleep in the same bed cause that habit is really hard to break!). As for toys, just keep things organised. get some really cheap plastic totes. they will stack so to get the most out of little space. Congrats and keep your head up!

You wont really know what you can do without until the baby is here. Just save up a few hundred dollars and set it aside. Then once the baby comes you can go out and pick up what you dont have and decide you need.

Breast feeding can simplfy things greatly.

I'd put the baby in the livingroom. Ive seen many families in small apartments do this. It gives you and your husband privacy, and ensures that the baby has a space. Keep a bassenet or pack and play handy for times when you need to shut the door so baby can sleep. But its better for a baby to sleep with noise around, makes a sounder healthier sleeper.

You can live however you decide you can live. You'll make it work just fine until you can move into a bigger place.

When it comes down to it, your body provides that baby with everything it needs to survive for the first year or so of life. You can use cloth diapers and wash them in the tub or boil them on the stove. Go ask your gramma how she did it, you learn alot about just what little is required to raise a healthy happy baby.

It can definitly work. Legally a child can remain in the parents room until age of 3 or 4. And you could put the baby's crib in the room and a small tall dresser should be all you need. Things like a changing table and diaper pails and such are more luxury then necessity. You can store packs of diapers and wipes under the crib and clothes and such in the dresser. BTW avoid buying baby oil. Can be lethal if drank by a baby. Take care and good luck with the new baby.

Good luck. This can be done. Babies are little and portable and people do not need all the junk advertised for babies that takes up so much space. I had 3 children and one thing I would absolutely have again is a swing. That's it. Maybe a carrier car/seat combination. I wouldn't recommend baby sleeping in the big bed either. You can get pretty tired and unwittingly roll over. The suffocation chances are just too high. a moses basket or basinette will be fine for several months but they grow fast and eventually you will need a crib. You can wedge that in your room somewhere until you are ready to move.

When my daughter was born my husband and I were living in a three bedroom house with my mom(55) my mamaw(75) and my granny(95) that was great. We lived there for a year and when I got pg with my son we just jumped into a new home with both feet. It's hard but your baby shouln't suffer.

You don't need a changing table. If your but is good enough for the couch bed or floor then so is your babies.

You may want a abssinet or baby bed but we just let our rugrats sleep with us. It's not NEEDED.

From there you just have to make your own thoughtful decisions. All we had with our daughter was a playstation and a bouncer and a highchair and the only reason we had those was because they were given to us.

Good luck.

we used one of those room dividers, painting the back side to fit the baby. They have dresser and changing table combo's ( saves space). Our son didn't like the crib. we use a Bassinet , they are much smaller. we had two one in the bedroom and a travel one by baby trends, it was a 3 and 1, changing table and storage, bassinet and playpen. we used a Highchair that tied down to our kitchen chair. safety 1st all in one. I learned along the way that the combo sets or all in ones saved spaced and you could use them for a long time. Babies-R-us is a good place to go and see what fits your space and what you like. I Hope this helps and Good luck.

you'll be fine. I had two kids in a one bedroom at one point. It was a very large room. But it allowed us to save for something great.

Common sense when trying to save. Is a boppy pillow a neccesity? NO way, use a standerd pillow.

Never over buy on one product because they might not use it, or need it.

Buy allergin laundry soap, for the family, this way you wont have to freaquently buy baby detergant, it is expensive.

Use your regular towels for the baby, they are warmer, thicker and provide great coverage, vs, a $15 little towel thaat looks cute. And you will need several. and they only last till the sixth months or so.

my hubby and I did the same thing for 1 full year after my daughter was born. We kept her in our room for the first 6 weeks, then in order for us all to get our sleep (cause we disturb babies as much as they disturb us, plus as a mom you'll be waking up over the littlist things) after 6 weeks, we moved our bed to the living room so that she could have her own room, we just used a baby monitor to alert us to her waking up. This worked well cause we didnt have to worry about us making noise when watching tv or whatever after shes sleeping. After a year, she started moving around so much and we didnt have enough room so we moved but staying in the 1 bedroom apartment helped us save a lot of money.

If you don't have room for a crib, get a bassinet, or have the babe sleep in bed with you (co-sleeping is not for everyone)
You won't need a highchair yet.
The things I use the most with my 3 month old are his swing and a carseat for in the car.
He sleeps in our bed and naps during the day in his swing.
If you breastfeed, you don't have to worry about bottles.
1 thing that I could NOT live without is my baby sling and mei tai.
You can carry your babe and still have your hands free.

I am currently in your situation, although hopefully soon to get out. although baby stuff will take up a lot of space, you can make it work. the baby will have to sleep with you for at least the first couple months. my mother went thru this with me my brother and my baby sister. when my little sister was born she stayed in my parents room until she was three. they had no problems. they just bought a bigger dresser and found more places for baby toys and such. it's ok it will work out until you cna get a bigger place.
