Every time I say, "I can't take any more," something else bad happens. Obviously, there are many neutral and some little good things in my life, but not nearly enough to cancel out the overwhelming negative events. I realize that some of it is because of choices I make, but the more bad things that happen, the less fortitude I have to make good choices in the future. So I grasp for anything that looks like it might bring me some pleasure. Even when I was younger and really moral and good, things didn't go well for me either. I feel trapped by life and like I have no control. How would you go about changing this?

you have to keep in mind the law of Murphy: ``if there are two or more ways to do something and one of those ways can result in a catastrophe, then someone will do it.`` and to keep in mind that every time when you go down you have to stand up, even if you`ll get down again....like the Phoenix, you have to be reborn from the ashes....

Well, you just described my life story, as well.

There is nothing you can change about it, but your perception, and after all, what is more important?

When I reached my realizations about life, such as that everything makse sense and that this world is but a training ground for a life elsewhere, and that the harder I am tested, the more responsibility I may have, and the more I may be loved then.... well then, it all started making sense.

And no, I did not escape into another world out of desperation. I just realized where the true focus of my consciousness lies and even from this life I knew that nothing that we are ever given is for free.

Should you be intersted at all in my philosophy, perhaps you could read "Rational Spirituality" on the Dhaxem website.

I hope your fortune will change, or that you find your happiness.

There is a saying that "Luck is preparation meeting opportunity". So as another posting said, study, or whatever will prepare you. Get advice from friends and relatives, maybe from a clergyman or a counselor.

By the way, none of us has complete control, only the control to keep going. Have you heard the song "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley? Really nice music, a bit inspirational.

Good luck, keep on asking for advice.

it is your outlook on life.. and the less drama you have in your life the more happier you will be.. If you give out positive the more positive you will recieve. The world works is a circular motion if you put out negativity you will recieve, If you out positive the world has no choice but to give back positive.. Try doing something kind for another human being, perhaps holding a door, giving a homeless person a dollar.. Who cares what he does with the dollar it is really none of your business. It is just the point of putting out positive.. Good luck..

I do believe there are things like bad luck. I also believe that our perception makes things good or bad; so there is much subjectivity (as opposed to objectivity) in classifying events. There are people much worse off than you are. Perhaps you are better than your circumstances (many are) but this fact is no comfort if you are not aware of it. If I am plagued with bad events in my life I would simply work harder; law of average is something good will happen, even if I simply become a better person.

Take control of your life. If you are overspending, over eating, take control. If you need to make a job change, get a part time job in another field while you continue in your present job. Go online and see if you can get more education or get a degree. Keep yourself busy doing thinks that will make you happy but not necessarily pleasurable. Get involved in a hobby if you have exxtra time in your life. YOU need to change your life and your luck.

You can be good, but no use if you aren't smart. You need to be street smart too, even geniuses at schools are complete losers in the real world. There really isn't such thing as "bad luck", just analyze what you have been doing so far, what did you do in such situation? Did it work? If not, what would have been right? Study, study, study...

Get through it the best you can. Rely on your friends for help and ask for support from your family. Try to look for good in every situation. Count your blessings. You have a lot more than you think you do! Remember, every cloud has a silver lining!

I would take a look around and realize you don't have it as bad as you think. What if you were blind or tragically lost everything you owned or knew.? There is way more hardship than you think. Try to think of your life as God telling or helping you with lessons for this life... That works for me.

You need to find out the effects that are causing the circumstances that you define as "bad luck" and change the causes and actions to create new effects which you can define as "good luck"...
