Even though I made a reservation over a month prior, owner claimed no such reservation existed. They entered my room while I was gone, took the receipt they had given me and locked me out.

I found my confirmation letter from the hotel on my home computer. Armed with that, and the fact that I did nothing wrong to warrant eviction, does this sound strange?

If they had actually checked me in and did not indicate that they would do any further checking on the status of the reservation I would have called the police and had them arrested for trespassing in my room assuming they gave you a check in receipt. They are only allowed in the room to clean it or in an emergency.

It all depends on exactly what happened. It they said we will check you in but if we check our records and find no reservation and another person has one then you are out of luck.

This isn't legal, but I want to tell you had you booked this through an agent you would have documents showing your pre-paid hotel nights, plus if need be while you were in travels you could have contacted us to resolve this issue instead of being kicked out.

We book through recommendable vendors that would have never allowed this to continue! Sorry to hear this happen, but this is just one of the many examples it really can pay to have a travel agent on your side instead of an online site that could care less.

I had one girl who when she came in to finally use a travel agent, this was after her booking online to a hotel in Cancun. It was the Marriott Casa Magna and when she got there, well the hotel was not there. It was closed after hurricane damage and this what some might think "reliable" online website hadn't updated anything. Allowed the sale, and she went down there without her 5 star hotel to stay in. Instead they tried to put her up in a 2 star place. There are horror stories like some of you can't believe from online travel. So think of that next time you are tempted to save potentially 5 dollars online!

I am still however very sorry this happened to you.....it is never fun to experience problems on a holiday. Hopefully things will go differently in the future.

It's time to call Better Business Bureau and State Attorney General's Office - Consumer Affairs Division. If you had a reservation one month ahead, the room was yours regardless. But even then, they shouldn't have entered your room while you were gone. And if you DID have to move, they should have given you a replacement room of equal value and a discount for your trouble.

Hotels can ask anybody to leave at anytime. Everytime I stay somewhere I have to sign something stating that I must vacate the premises if hotel staff demands it.
