It is not only annoying to the other patrons but it is also dangerous to both the children and the servers. Hot food on large trays and hot drinks like coffee are served in restraunts and it's amazing how fast a tiny kid can turn a corner and run into a server carrying one or both.
I was a server for 8 years and when I saw parents allowing their children to run I would make it clear that it was extremely unsafe and that they needed to keep the children at the table, then I would try to give the kids a task...like making me a building out of the sugars or drawing me a picture of their pet.
I have also seen parents letting their babies crawl around on the floor, which I let them know that we had recently broken a glass in that very spot and that we may not have picked it all up...
I am a mother of three and all of my children sit at the table through the whole meal, it was never a question. When they see other kids running around and ask me why they cannot I tell them it is because I am the parent and I make the rules for them.

Parent's should take control of their kids. This is happening everywhere now. A few weeks ago in church I couldn't even focus on the sermon because of a noisy kid. The mother did nothing but sit there. The same unruly kid runs around the restaurant and falls and hurts himself. These are the same unresponsible parents who get a lawyer and sue the restaurant.

I guess some parents just don't realize how annoying it is, not to mention rude. I have a 2 yr old and, yes she does want to get up and run around, but we don't allow it. We try to distract her, and it if that doesn't work we know it is time to finish up and get out of there. I would be so embarrassed if someone thought my child was being disruptive. Come on other parents, think about it. Why don't some parents who allow this answer this so we can all understand what is going through your heads?

I have a 4 year old boy and although he is a typical boy, he knows that when we go to a restaurant he has to sit down and behave like a little gentleman. Yes, it is very rude and disrespectful to all patrons when children(any age) run around and act crazy. Now, dont get me wrong, if your at peter piper pizza or chucky cheese's, fine but not in an actual restaurant.

Unless they are at Chuck E. Cheese, that is absolutely not okay! That's just so rude and disruptive to everyone else trying to enjoy their meal out. Not to mention it's dangerous - servers are constantly walking through the dining room carrying hot food and coffee. I bet these idiot parents would be all ready to sue if their kid bumped into a server and got third degree burns.

I think that it's kind of impolite, because the parents should not allowed to their children to play, run and screwing around a restaurant, a restaurant is not a playground... It should be a rule or a n agreement between these situations.

My brother is that way with his kids. We went to a nice place once; the kind that doesn't have a children's menu, the were awful. I had my girls split an adult plate, they ate well. My brother tried the same for his boys, but my nephew just complained loudly and didn't eat. He the proceeded to run around and blow out the candles at the different tables. The next time we went out we went to Golden Corral. We figured it is more to my nephews class. When we ran out of bread he went to another table and took the bread from another family. I feel so embarrassed, and he isn't even mine.

I do indeed,I can't stand children crying at the best of times, especially when I am out dining. However is this the only time they can spend out together? Some times they need to just talk, maybe they don't have anyone to leave with their kids with. In these days its hard to trust strangers with your children, with all the wackos out there. What would you do in their shoes?

I think it ruins your dining experience. I can remember as a child when my family would dine out, we were only allowed to go to the restroom to wash our hands. (Even then we were accompanied by a parent or older sibling) If I were in a restaurant running and playing, it probably would have the last time in a restaurant. My Mom & Dad would have killed me.
