Is yu-gi-oh truely japanese anime or a product from another country? The yu-gi-oh shows looks like a half hour long show to sell cards to kids as well as get kids to beg their parents to buy the cards at the checkout lines at the store.

Yu-gi-oh started out as a manga (Japanese comic) written by Kazuki Takahashi. When he first started the series, the card game was not his original focus. Rather, he wanted to write a story of friendship starting with Yugi, whose name means game. Yugi was good at the various games of their world, including one similar to Dungeon and Dragons. But his audience became more interested in the card game called Duel Monsters that was featured in the manga, thus changing the focus and bringing about the card game to the public. As many popular manga in Japan, the series became a television series. In America the manga is split into two different sets of volumes. The first set is where Duel Monsters was not the focus. However, when the anime was released in USA, this first season was cut out.
