How does it look like if the Royal Family will be kicked out of the palace and having to live in the 'real world'? There was a book before that mentions this and can remember a scene where Prince Phillip refuses to get out of bed because he has no one to wash or dress him and another one where the Queen has to queue up for the dole. Wow, that could be pretty embarrassing but in the real world, they are Royal Families still and so they are entitled to their own rights. However, if they bring embarrassment and shame to the people and not setting up a good example, I am hoping they should go for the good of all. Well, the kids are fine but their father can go with the mistress. Goodluck!

I'm not an ardent royalist but I'd rather have the royal family than that waste of space Blair. In nine years he has almost single handedly destroyed this green and pleasant land we are now on the verge of collapse with more and more foreigners entering the country, driving up the cost of living and the price of accommodation, pensioners are being ripped off to pay for the gold plated pensions they have awarded themselves- I'd better stop now before I say something I might regret.

The best reason I heard for keeping them is they encourage disrespect for authority by being so plainly unjust. Tourism is a really poor reason - we shouldn't base our government on if it'll get people to come point and stare at us (and I doubt anyone outside the M25 gets any royal benefit from tourists anyway). I find the idea that somebody has status and demands respect over me by birthright absolutely morally offensive. Prince Charles is a total moron, who wants taxpayers money to be changed from medical treatments that work to homeopathy, which doesn't. There seems to be far too many hangers-on, dukes and duchesses of who-gives-a-stuff, that tourists haven't even heard of, let alone come to see. I have two things I'd like to present to the Queen, one on each hand.

Edit:

Wow, a new low in stupid arguments for royalty. If replacing the Queen would give, say, Blair more power, then why does this power reside in the hands of an unelected official currently? If this power is merely symbolic, why can't we replace it with an elected symbolic figurehead, a Zaphod Beeblebrox?

Also, I can't imagine Canada or Australia being actually OFFENDED by the fact we moved away a few more steps from our colonial past. Really, you think Canadians will be crying into their Tim Horton's at the prospect of no longer having a pointless figurehead irrelevant to their lives? A few top brass may have feathers ruffled, but they, to be quite frank, can STFU and hand rule over to the people.

The "Royal Family" are just parasites on the British. They have enormous personal wealth yet still receive money form the state. If any member of the ordinary public claimed money from the state and had other income they would be charged with fraud under the social security act.

Yes they are a waste of time and money they are only where they are because their forbears committed crimes that would put any ordinary folk in prison and they are still the same. Also there are many decent ordinary ppl who have done a lot more for the community and do not expect or get any recognition for their good works.

Yes 100% they should go, why because they do not have a clue about life today, they do not care about the people, a complete waste of space.

Charles certainly is a waste of space, why cant he resign his position and go live in the country with that old bag he calls a wife.

no, they are the last traditonal british thing we have left, yes they are useless, but (seriously no offence here) but everything else has been taken over by asylum seekers and religious folk, i mean when was the last time this nation celebrated vd day properly? now we just have a few documentaries on tv and stuff but we don't have the parades and stuff for fear of upsetting the germans and jews that have flocked to our country because they think it's a paradise, so we celebrate divali and other religions instead of our own, we Britain used to be proud of it's country, now we are too scared to upset anyone, like we are now being tol we have to sau seasons greetings instead of merry christmas, and some areas don't put up decorations because of the religion and ethnic clash

i ask myself what they actually do for a living, and the answer is not a lot. probably nothing, i imagine. the monarchy is old, outdated, old fashioned and should be abolished. if britain wants to compete with other countries that aren't reliant on having a monarchy, then the royal family should definitely go. they are a waste of taxpayer's money!

They should stay...they are a link to our historical past. The Queen works very hard meeting and greeting visiting Heads of State etc, putting in a good word for British Industry overseas, influencing and pushing British interests around the world, raising funds for and heading various charities and so it will be with Charles and William when their time comes. Can any of you detractors claim to do as much? I don't mind the Queen having some of my tax money, rather that than it being fettered away supporting some chain smoking alcoholic living on welfare with no intention of looking for work coz the Govemment has made it easier to live that way.
