Despite the fact that the Yankees have made the playoffs for eleven consecutive years under Joe Torre, their recent 3-10 playoff record (over their last 13 postseason games) has "compelled" Steinbrenner to supposedly fire and replace him with Lou Pinella.

Without question, this will be among one of the many offseason changes in New York.

If you were Steinbrenner or Cashman, what changes would you make this winter? (Be reasonable!)

It appears as though Steinbrenner was convinced this afternoon to hold onto Joe Torre, so any managerial changes are out.

even with if I detest the Yankees and am fairly chuffed the position they sit down in the standings, that's a touch too early to panic -- did not this ensue very last twelve months too? Girardi has continually been overvalued as a manager because of what he did with the Marlins and how he managed his image of being a good manager. That suggested, the Yankees concern isn't their 'aging' offence or their rotation -- CC and AJ are overpaid yet are a good a million-2 punch -- the challenge with the Yankees is their bullpen - they have an aging Mo and really no longer a lot else to assist them. Hughes and Joba are good pitchers even with the indisputable fact that the ny media truly overrates expertise popping out of the bronx so Cashman has regularly been acknowledged as a expertise developer. Wang imploded -- that takes position to pitchers. Pettite is a good 5 guy. Joba is a touch overvalued yet good guy to have in the rotation. in the right, they have the expertise yet no intensity in the bullpen -- Bruney [who isn't an elite arm in the bullpen in any case in preserving at the same time with his historic previous yet is sweet] has left a huge void in the pen - one which not one of the Yanks youthful fingers can fill. i imagine in Cashman's race to get the perfect bats and starting up pitchers, he has forgotten a fee of a good bullpen. I also imagine Cashman truly did not 'positioned the crew again' as you say via the indisputable fact that funds develop into there, it develop into going to someone. See how all of it went down this low season -- gamers might want to were had at the less expensive(er) even with the indisputable fact that the Yanks in simple terms did not care about the recession because they have the money to blow and they were bidding antagonistic to themselves. extra, Tex is continually a sluggish starter -- look into his previous numbers. i visit't believe i'm saying this, yet he will come round. inquiring for god-like numbers from CC and Tex aren't any further truly said as for yet they do ought to stay with the burden of the contracts they signed. And, even with in case you whinge about the Yanks pitching, the starters [outdoors wang] are doing way extra perfect than 4/5ths of the BoSox rotation. even with the indisputable fact that, the socks bullpen is a lot extra perfect and deeper than the Yanks. starting up pitchers won't be able to be envisioned to bypass 9 innings each and every of the time, even with in the journey that they are paid like gods.

I dont know if Lou Pinella is the answer to the World Series drought. What I would do is keep Jeter, Posada, and Rivera. I would release Sheffield, Matsui, and maybe A-Rod. Signing Soriano could be a big factor.

I'd keep Jeter, Posada, and the better pitchers that are there-and have a fire sale with the rest of them! Yes the Tigers played great -but that was also the same team who couldn't beat the Royals once in their last 3 games!
7 Mil for a manager --Torre would go too!

Start with your nexus of a team and reload with good players with smaller ego's!

I think they should get younger starting pitchers! maybe like barry zito, or some other experienced free agents that are going to be out there . I dont know why they ever got randy jonhnson??? mmm i also think they should get a better bullpen so they can get to mariano rivera !!!!! theyre offense is good but i think they should trade a- rod ..he dont belong in New york!!

Very good question, I'd trade some bats away for good quality pitching, I'm talking Starters and Set-up men(for Rivera). I think that would take them over the hump.

get rid of a-rod, trade him for a more experienced and better bullpen, stop spending so much on sluggers and focus on devlopment as a team, and give abreu back to the phillies! (just kidding) and when drafting focus not on the imediate future but long term planning. hope i helped i might just be a tad biast as i am a red sox fan, but i tried to give what would be best for the team.
