Usually between 18 and 24 weeks, since every doctor is different there's no difinitive (sp?) week used universally. Good luck to you.

Usually, there is an ultrasound during the first 12 weeks to help date the pregnancy is the woman is unsure when she conceived. They also look for indicators of downs syndrome and birth defect.
Later, many women find out the sex of the fetus at 18 to 20 weeks. An ultrasound must be done during this time not to discover the sex but so that, if there are any indications that an amniocentisis must be performed, the procedure can be scheduled.
Ultrasound is a very important diagnostic tool. It's not just for taking pictures of babies in utero and checking between the legs.

Every insurance allows different ultrasounds, at different periods of your pregnancy. The answer to this could be found at your doctors office, they should be aware of what your insurance allows.
Normally, you could get one early, 9-10 weeks, then another at 20 weeks. This all also depends on whether the baby is healthy or not. If complications are found early, your proned to be watched more and have additional ultrasounds.

Really, it depends on when the doc feels a need. By standards it is usually in the fourth month. I had my first ultrasound at 12 weeks because I had some bleeding. And believe it or not, the sex of the baby can be determined at 16+ weeks by a specialist. By then the sex organs have developed.

My doctor told me to make the appointment between 18 and 20 weeks. I am under military insurance (Tricare) and they only allow for 1 routine ultrasound unless there is something wrong. They said they try to do it that early to help date the pregnancy and confirm the due date.

i have had every ultrasound between 16 and 18 weeks and with my second son they knew he was a boy at 16 weeks. my oldest boy would always "hide" but they can tell the baby sex by 16 weeks.

it depends on the doctor. they can usually tell from the 16th week on. I'm getting mine done in three days and i'm 21 weeks. it's my first. my cousin, whose due date is a week before me, has had 3 ultrasounds done. her doctor does them frequently. but she just had the one that told her the sex a few days ago. but yeah it definitely can happen as early as the fourth month.

With my 1st, my ob/gyn gave me one at 9 weeks to confrim the heartbeat. and one more at 20 weeks to check and see how the baby was doing.
With my 2nd, we had one at 20 weeks and one more at 24 weeks.
The ultrasound tech. was able to tell us the sex of both babies at 20 weeks.
I think between 20 and 24 weeks is pretty standard.

They normally give them at the 4 or 5th month. At that time, the baby is big enough to tell the gender and the baby isn't to big to be squished in there.
