a disabled person in a car. What I mean is to which extend you need to help them to get into the car and how do you secure the wheelchair in the back? Excuse my ignorance but I need to know.

I guess, the main question is, is the person WEIGHT BEARING, can they stand un aided? If they can, then put the chair almost alongside the front seat of the car. BREAKS ON! Then ask the person to use your car to support themselves into the car, with you being very close to avoid falling. Not sure how your situation is really to be of much more help there. As to the chair, breaks on, cushion seat removed, pull the supporting part which was under the cushion and this could make the chair fold up, take off the foot rests, easy. Hopefully you should get the whole thing into the boot, but be careful of your paintwork, get help if you are not very tall or strong!!! Good luck! Hope that little bit helps, or you could of course, ask your passenger!

first thing would be how disabled the person is and the type of car. i.e. a people carrier type vehicle is more easily accessible than say a micra or corsa. you can hire/buy specially adapted vehicles where the wheelchair can sit in the back with the disabled person still in it, secured of course. you can use a board to aid transferring the person from the chair into the vehicle, always better to have someone else helping too from inside, most wheelchairs fold up quite compact and will store in the boot without problem. another solution if it's going to be an irregular thing is to hire an "access cab" specially adapted taxi's.
P.S. Why the thumbs down?

That depends upon the disablility, the person, and the vehicle.

My former mother in law was wheelchair bound. Getting her in their wheelchair van was a piece of cake -- strictly roll-on, roll-off. Getting her in my small compact car at the time was nearly impossible as she was very heavy and totally unable to assist in moving her from her chair to the car.

the wheelchair should fold up and fit in your boot, depends on how disabled the person is as to what help they need. my friend uses a board to slid across from his chair into my car.
