In terms of speed, power management and general efficiency can the AMD compare to the INTEL processor? I want to buy a new laptop and have found that those with intel centrino processors are more expensive so is it worth the extra $100 or is the AMD processor just as good; if not even better?

Erm, for all laptop, intel are much better
Desktop, again Intel are ahead at the moment. But yeah, for desktop it is kinda cheaper at the moment to get an AMD, but for laptop, hell for sure go for Intel, and wait till AMD bring out the next line of chip with small conponents (65nm).

IF you buy a turion, it will be much slower than a centrino. Well not too much actually. But I have a laptop with an AMD Athlon 64 (NOT TURION) init, but the down side to my chip is that it runs hotter. The turion will not do this.

Buying AMD turion will mean you have better power consumption than intel, but that doesn't necessary mean more battery life. That depends on the model of the battery. (avoid sony battery since we all know what will happen to that).
