According to Stats Canada, a man's life expectancy is almost 6 years less than a womans. Of the major causes of death tracked by StatsCan, men are dying at a higher rate than women, from cancer to suicide, from HIV/AIDS to heart disease (www40.statscan.ca/101/cst01/health36.htm).
With all the evidence pointing to a crisis in men's health, why is there not one directorate for men's health in Canada?

In 1997, the last year I have record for, per 100,000 people, 229.7 men vs. 148.5 women died of various cancers. 230.8 men vs 129.7 women died of heart disease. 19.5 men vs 4.9 women died by suicide. 3.6 men vs 0.5 women died of HIV infection. I've done the research. Check it out: www40.statcan.40/101/cst01/health36.htm.

Responses lead me to another question: Why do women react with such vitriol when someone suggests support for male issues?

You have got to be kidding.

First of all go back to Canada and ask them.

Secondly, there is something called personal responsibility that affects mortality. HELLO.

Finally, do you believe everything you read? Your question does not deserve a legitimate answer.

I don't live in Canada rather in the US. Here there is a huge emphasis on Breast Cancer and other issues related to women's health...but we also have emphases on prostate exams and the PSA test and heart related issues. So I think it may be more even handed here.

look a little closer, men are most likely dying earlier due to heart disease. women have estrogen which protects them from atherosclerosis so we get our heart disease about 10 years later than men. womens risk for heart disease does not increase significantly until after menopause, one of the reasons we live a bit longer
